The Routt County Sheriff's Office Drug Drop Box is intended to provide the public with a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription and non-prescription medications. Statistics tell us that the main starting point for drug abuse is unused prescription drugs kept in a home. These unused medications can also cause accidental drug overdoses in children. We also recognize these medications can lead to groundwater contamination if flushed down a toilet. By using the Drug Drop Box, citizens can safely dispose of unwanted medications in a timely manner. The Sheriff's Office will then arrange for the safe and legal destruction of the accumulated materials in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Please follow the below listed instructions to utilize this service:
All medications must be in a plastic bag or paper bag before being placed into the drop box.
Please no loose pills. There are baggies available for your use. Please seal the baggie before dropping the medications into the box.
