EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

David DeMorat, Emergency Operations Director

CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE AND AUTHORIZATION OF THE CHAIR’S SIGNATURE ON A DECLARATION RESCINDING STAGE 1 FIRE RESTRICTIONS PURSUANT TO ORDINANCE NO. 2013-002

Rescind Stage 1 Fire Restrictions pursuant to Ordinance No. 2013-002 on all private and state lands outside of municipal boundaries within Routt County effective at 12:01 a.m. on September 30, 2021

Every Tuesday the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit has a conference call with multi-county agency representatives to review current fire conditions and discuss rescinding fire restrictions.  All Routt County fire protection districts must agree that the criteria for Stage 1 restrictions have been mitigated before we recommend rescinding Stage 1 fire restrictions in Routt County.

After the 2012 wildland fire season it was apparent that Ordinance 99-1 did not recognize the authority of the District Fire Chiefs by Title 32 and Senate Bill 20 within their Fire Protection Districts.

Ordinance No. 2013-002 recognizes their authority in their Fire Protection District by allowing the District Chief to enforce fire restrictions on open burning during periods of high fire danger within their district and was adopted by the County Commissioners on April 2, 2013.

Grand County, Jackson County, Moffat County, Little Snake Field Office, Medicine Bow Routt National Forest, Browns Park, Kremmling Field Office, and Arapaho Roosevelt National Forest will rescind all fire restrictions during the week of September 27, 2021.  Rio Blanco County, White River Field Office, and White River National Forest previously rescinded all fire restrictions.  Dinosaur National Monument will remain in Stage 1 fire restrictions.
