Secondary dwelling units are permitted in certain situations and are subject to specific standards on property in the Agriculture/Forestry and Mountain Residential Estate Zone Districts. One attached, 800-square-foot (maximum) secondary unit is permitted on lots with a minimum size of 5 acres and lots approved through the Land Preservation Subdivision Exemption or Minor Subdivision Exemption processes. One detached, 800 square foot (max.) secondary unit is permitted on lots with a minimum size of 35 acres or more; however, the detached unit shall be located no more than 300 feet from the primary dwelling unit.Separate restrictions apply on lots that are 70 acres or greater and lots that are located within the Commuter Zone. Certain exemptions apply for secondary dwelling units constructed prior to June 1995. Duplexes may be permitted in other residential zone districts.
